Logistics & Distribution: An Expanding Industry Sector

Clarity, the Inward Investment Marketing specialists, have embarked on a research collaboration with Sheffield University Management School (SUMS) - one of only 58 'Triple Crown' accredited business schools in the world - to develop an in-depth understanding of what's driving logistics sector inward investments.

The project will aim to identify the key current trends in the logistics sector, and the key 'location choice drivers' of logistics and distribution businesses. The findings will further enhance Clarity's breadth of industry sector expertise, as a basis for developing targeted regional and national industry sector and inward investment marketing strategies.

Nick Smillie, Clarity's MD, said: 'It's our business to understand what's driving investment and location choice decisions across a range of industry sectors, and logistics is an important area for us. With the growth of internet retailing and new distribution models such as 'portcentric', the sector is changing fast, and we want to develop the best possible understanding of how this is affecting business behaviour. Logistics is also intrinsically linked to industrial sectors including Advanced Manufacturing and Renewables - understanding the sector has to be a core competency for us.'

'We're delighted to be working with Sheffield University Management School on this project. The school is home to the Logistics & Supply Chain Management (LSCM) Research Centre, which is at the cutting edge of international research in this area, and the project will benefit from access to world class academic expertise in logistics and supply chains. Understanding business drivers is at the heart of succesful inward investment and industry sector marketing, and we look forward to applying the fruits of this collaboration to develop excellent sector value propositions.'
